Go on a treasure hunt to the spectrolite quarry and pick up beautiful gem-quality spectrolites with your own hands. On the same tour, you can experience the impressive proportions of one of Finland’s largest granite quarries. The famous Baltic Brown or Baltic Green granite is quarried there.
If you wish, we can combine the stone-themed gemstone tour with a visit to other interesting places, such as the historic Salpalinja defense station and the Pätäri House and Homeland Museum. If necessary, we can also book a delicious restaurant for a meal or coffee for your group.
Gemstone tours and quarry visits led by our expert guides are suitable not only for individuals, families or groups of various sizes, but also for communities, companies and schoolchildren as a natural and entertaining visit to the leading deposit area of our national gemstone spectrolite and granite.
Quarry visits are organized from 1.6-31.8.2026 by reservation or daily direct visits starting at 12:30 without prior reservation (except for Midsummer from 18.6.-20.6.2026). All departures take place from the Ylämaan Jalokivimuseo, Kivikyläntie 19, 54410 Lappeenranta.
Basic tour, duration approximately 1 hour or by agreement:
The tour starts from the Gemstone Museum in Jalokivikylä and continues with a visit to the spectrolite quarry, where you can pick up genuine spectrolite gemstones. No special clothing or footwear required.
Prices start from 45 euros / person or by agreement (includes a visit to the Gemstone Museum, a guide and picking up gemstones) depending on the size of the group and the destinations.
Meals or coffee breaks can be arranged separately.
We will arrange an individual visiting program for each visitor or group.
Extensive tour, duration approximately 2 hours or by agreement:
The tour starts from the Gemstone Museum in Jalokivikylä and the Gemstone Village and continues with a visit to the spectrolite quarry (picking up spectrolite) or to Salpalinja or to the Pätäri House Museum (only on Saturdays and Sundays) depending on your interest.Visits do not require special clothing or footwear.
Prices start at 50 euros / person or by agreement depending on the size of the group and the sites.
Meals or coffee can be arranged separately.
We always arrange an individual visit program for each visitor or group if necessary.
Daily direct visits:
Duration approximately 1 hour without prior reservation directly from the Gem Museum. Departure from the Gem Museum at 12:30 or by reservation (tel. 0400 391590) daily at other times. Gem Museum address: Kivikyläntie 19, 54410 Jalokivikylä.
